ISLAND BEACH STATE PARK - Visitors to one of the Jersey Shore's state parks have been asking for refunds because of an abundance of biting flies called greenheads.

Signs at the gate to Island Beach State Park say no refunds will be given due to the bugs.

The flies are at their worst when there's a west wind that pushes the greenheads across the island to the beach. With an east wind conditions are better.

The park says the level of annoyance varies depending on other factors too. Areas with a lot of vegetation or standing water are even more troublesome.

The park's website recommends that visitors bring insect repellant with them and wear long clothes when possible.
