Grand jury hands down charges in Rutgers suicide

EDISON - (AP) - A grand jury hascharged a former Rutgers University student with bias intimidationfor allegedly using a webcam to spy on his male roommate's intimateencounter with a man.

An indictment was handed up Wednesday by a grand jury inMiddlesex County against Dharun Ravi, of Plainsboro.

It charges Ravi with bias, invasion of privacy, witness andevidence tampering and other charges stemming from the suicide of18-year-old Tyler Clementi in September.

Ravi was already facing invasion of privacy charges. Lawyers forRavi say the webcam stream was viewed only on a single computer anddid not show the men having sex.

Ravi has since withdrawn from Rutgers. Clementi's suicidebrought national attention to suicide among gay and lesbian youths.
