Gov. Christie to appear at education conference in Iowa today

DES MOINES, Iowa - (AP) - National Republican strategists and Iowa GOP activists say New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is casting a shadow over the presidential campaign even though he's ruled out a 2012 run.

The first-term governor is leaving an imprint as a potential kingmaker - and distraction.

He's coming to Des Moines on Monday for an education conference and he'll headline a fundraiser for a congressman in the leadoff caucus state.

His visit comes as former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota are set to campaign in the state Monday.
