NEWARK - Gov. Chris Christie joined outgoing mayor and U.S. Senator-elect Cory Booker in a ceremonial groundbreaking on a new ShopRite supermarket in Newark.

Ending "food deserts," or parts of a city without easy access to groceries, has been a top priority for the mayor.

Christie says its a sign of hope for the people of Newark. "What it represents is the belief that there are people of means and intelligence who say this is a place worth investing in," he says.

Developers hope to have the project completed sometime near the end of next year.
