EWING - Gov. Chris Christie focused on the controversy surrounding the Rutgers University athletic department during his monthly radio show.
Christie sat down with 101.5 radio host Eric Scott and said he stands by Rutgers officials and their decision to hire the new athletic director Julie Hermann.
Allegations that Hermann was mentally and verbally abusive as a coach in a previous position at the University of Tennessee have stirred up more tension over the hire.
Christie also said he continues to back University President Robert Barchi. "He's the right man for the job," Christie said.
One of Hermann's former players spoke out Tuesday, saying Herman was a great coach and a motivation to her and her team.
