The Department of Transportation has begun gearing up for what is expected to be the first blizzard of 2013.

TRENTON - Gov. Chris Christie ordered the state's Emergency Operations Center in West Trenton open for the duration of the approaching blizzard.

State officials are using the office as the state's command center.

State police officials anticipate downed trees and wires due to heavy snowfall and high winds.

In Brick, emergency management officials are encouraging residents to relocate if they live on the barrier island or in areas prone to flooding.

The Emergency Operations Center opened Friday morning.
