Gov. Christie announces expansion project at Port Newark

PORT NEWARK - Gov. Chris Christie (R-N.J.) joined port officials today at the Port Newark Container Terminal (PNCT) to announce a new expansion project.

Officials say the $500 million investment project will double the number of containers going through the port over the next two decades and create nearly 800 new jobs.

"When global port leaders choose to invest $500 million at Port Newark, it sends a strong signal to the entire industry and is another example of businesses recognizing the benefits of investing in New Jersey," said Christie.

The Port Authority also will invest up to $150 million.

At the announcement, the governor portrayed himself as "The Great Compromiser" for the second time in two days. Yesterday, he signed a Democratic-sponsored bill into law.
