EDISON - Now that Donald Trump has been elected as the 45th president of the United States, what is next for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who was once considered to be a candidate for running mate?

There has been much speculation about what role, if any, the governor would play in Trump’s cabinet. Christie was chosen to head up Trump’s transition team and will now work with President Barak Obama and his staff to work towards a smooth transition for the president-elect.

“We are now all rooting for [Donald Trump’s] success in uniting and leading the country,” Obama said Wednesday.

Hillary Clinton also showed support for Trump in her concession speech.

“Donald trump is going to be our president. We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead,” she said.

But Trump told Clinton during the second debate that he plans to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate her “lies and deception.”

Gov. Christie has been mentioned as a possible attorney general candidate on several occasions. But some say that the Bridge-Gate scandal may make Senate confirmation hearings a challenge.

Gov. Christie has not said if he will resign from office now that Trump has claimed the presidency.
