LIVINGSTON - Gov. Chris Christie announced an increase of security patrols at religious facilities after a series of threats against Jewish and Islamic centers around the state.

Those who have been experiencing threats will also have the chance to receive federal grant money to help pay for better security measures, which could include extra security cameras or private security.

The Department of Homeland Security says that New Jersey Jewish community centers have experienced eight bomb threats since the beginning of 2017.

There have been similar threats against mosques. Masjid Al Imam in Jersey City received a threatening letter Tuesday. The letter was postmarked from Sheffield, England, and said "You and your filthy kind will be beheaded,” and contained a crude drawing of someone being decapitated.

“It brings a lot of anxiety into the community. It’s stress the community doesn’t need,” says Imam Abdul Aleem Razzaq. “We will just have to be alert to it. Be more aware of each other.”

Some say that they believe the atmosphere has changed since the Trump administration took office.

The Council on American-Islamic relations says there've been over 100 anti-Muslim incidents since the Nov. 8 election.
