EDISON - The Fox News GOP Debate Thursday night had social medial buzzing from what was said, to who didn’t show up.

Donald Trump was absent from the debate, but certainly not forgotten.

Fox moderator Megyn Kelly started off by addressing Trump’s notorious absence from the debate.

“Before we get to the issues, let’s address the elephant not in the room tonight,” said Kelly. “Donald Trump has decided not to attend this evening’s presidential debate.”

Then, the candidates had some fun of their own.

“I'm a maniac, and everyone on this stage is stupid, fat and ugly,” said Ted Cruz. “And Ben, you're a terrible surgeon.”

Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and the other candidates tackled many of the big issues like national security. They went back and forth on national security, and the handling of ISIS.

“We need to define the enemy, we need to define the rules on engagement so were are not sending out fighting men and women into combat with their arms tied being their backs,” said Cruz.

Governor Christie addressed Planned Parenthood and immigration. He also reiterated why he feels Hillary Clinton is unfit to be president.

“She put America’s secrets at risk for her convenience,” says Christie. “Let me tell you she did that and she is not qualified to be president of the United States.”

Meanwhile in Iowa, Trump held his own veterans event, standing firm on not participating in the Fox News Debate.

“When your treated badly you have to stick up for your rights, you have to do it,” says Trump.

This is the final GOP debate before the Iowa Caucus.
