EMERSON - A group of Girl Scouts from Emerson are fighting to save "Bruce the Spruce," a historic tree in town.
The tree has a long history in downtown Emerson and once served as the official town Christmas tree.
Recently, the town’s mayor announced that PSEG had to cut the tree down, but the Girl Scouts are rallying to save it.
"Everybody thinks that there's power in numbers and that's true, but we're trying to teach our Girl Scouts that even a small group of people, even one person can make a difference,” says troop leader Maria Buchert. “Even if we don't succeed, at least we tried."
The tree was supposed to be cut down on Monday, but it was postponed due to the weather.
The mayor says that he will see if there are other options available.
