JERSEY CITY - Police are searching for two suspects in Jersey City who killed a man outside his home in an apparent robbery.

The incident occurred on the front yard of the victim's house on Danforth Avenue just off JFK Boulevard. George Smith, 63, was shot dead as he was about to walk inside his home with his wife after the two spent the evening out.

Detectives with Hudson County say two males grabbed the purse belonging to Smith's wife. George Smith attempted to grab it back before he was shot. Neighbors say the gunmen got away by car.

Police are hoping nearby surveillance cameras will aide them in their investigation.

No arrests have been made.
