ASBURY PARK - Several national groups that support recognizing same-sex marriage are teaming up to push New Jersey lawmakers for a vote.
About 200 people gathered outside of Convention Hall in Asbury Park, as supporters look to gain enough support to push state lawmakers to override Gov. Chris Christie's veto last year.
"The message today is our community is still fighting for marriage equality", says marriage advocate Jay Lassiter. "Even though the Legislature passed marriage equality in New Jersey quite a few years ago, it was vetoed by the governor, and we're going to take a crack at a veto override."
A lawsuit for state courts to allow gay unions is scheduled for a key hearing next month.
