EDISON - Drivers hitting the roads this holiday weekend can expect higher prices at the pump.
According to AAA-Mid Atlantic, the average retail price of a gallon of regular, self-service gasoline hit $3.00 overnight at pumps across the country. New Jersey is still 5 cents shy of the dreaded $3 mark.
"For many, rising gas prices are especially tough this time of year as they are on the road more with extra shopping trips, holiday events and road trips to visit friends and family," says Tracy E. Noble, spokesperson for AAA Mid-Atlantic in a news release.
"If $3 is the new normal at Christmas and during the winter months, pump prices could rally to their second highest level in recorded history next spring," Noble says.
