GARFIELD - Garfield police have captured a domestic violence suspect following a daylong manhunt that triggered a school lockdown.
Police locked down Abraham Lincoln School and conducted a house-to-house search as they combed the streets of Garfield for the suspect.
The chase began when police responded to a domestic violence call in Passaic Wednesday at approximately 8:30 a.m.
Passaic Police Detective Andy White tells The Record newspaper that the 47-year-old male suspect drove off in a white minivan as officers approached his home.
White says the suspect crossed into Garfield and crashed into a building before fleeing on foot. White says the man then attempted to carjack a vehicle.
Officials have not released the suspect's name.
Students were released at the normal dismissal time.
