GARFIELD - Preparations are under way in Garfield to make sure the demolition of a building on a contaminated site does not send pollutants into the air.

The ground underneath a former electro-plating factory is contaminated with the cancer-causing toxin chromium. Officials plan to dismantle the site piece-by-piece instead of bulldozing it.

City leaders held a meeting tonight with the school board to inform the public about the ways crews will minimize pollution during demolition.
