Garfield boy killed by NJ Transit train

GARFIELD - A Garfield boy is dead after wandering onto New Jersey Transit railroad tracks and being struck by a train this afternoon.

Michael Cabaj, 13, was on his scooter attempting to make it across the tracks shortly before 5 p.m. when he was struck.

The Garfield accident is the second one involving an NJ Transit train in two days. Another incident Sunday in Wayne night took the lives of two teenage boys.

News of the tragedy spread quickly among classmates and friends.Because of Facebook, a crowd soon gathered at the scene where the boy was hit and killed.
