WALDWICK - Family, friends and fellow law enforcement officers gathered Tuesday to pay their final respects to a fallen police officer from Waldwick.
Hundreds attended funeral services for Officer Christopher Goodell at St. Luke’s Roman Catholic Church in Ho-Ho-Kus. Gov. Chris Christie was among the mourners paying their respects this morning.
Several hundred residents of Waldwick, along with police officers from several surrounding communities, turned out Monday for a procession for Officer Goodell. A wake followed.
Officer Goodell was killed Thursday when a tractor-trailer crashed into his patrol car while he was checking for speeders.
Goodell, who grew up in the Bergen County community where he served, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 32-year-old Marine Corps veteran had served on the Waldwick force for five years and is the first borough police officer to die in the line of duty.
Gov. Christie ordered flags at state office buildings to be flown at half-staff Tuesday.
