NEWARK - Large crowds packed the Solid Rock Baptist Church today to pay their final respects today to the six family members killed in a house fire in Newark last weekend.

Family and friends poured into the church. Relatives say they wanted today to be a celebration of life, so the service was filled with stories about the six victims. The pastor called today a "home-going" for the victims.

As News 12 has reported, the fire started just before 4 a.m. last Sunday at a home on South 15th Street. Investigators say the six relatives died of smoke inhalation, and their deaths have been ruled accidental.

The victims were Salome Stewart and her husband, Reginald Stewart, along  with Salome's sister, Natasha Kinsale. Three other family members were killed: Noreen "Michelle" Johnson, her 15-year-old son, Stephon Sydney and 11-year-old Zion Forbes.

A spokesperson for the family says coming up with the $28,000 for today's funeral has been tough. Funeral directors said they were doing what they could to help the family, and members of a local church were also attempting to collect funds to help cover the costs.
