RAMSEY - Grieving friends and family gathered today to bid their final farewells to a soldier from Ramsey who was killed while serving overseas.

Staff Sgt. Timothy McGill was killed in Afghanistan. The 30-year-old had served as a Marine and was first deployed to Iraq back in 2005. He later joined the National Guard and eventually qualified as a member of the elite special forces unit, the Green Berets.

Here at home, McGill served as a volunteer firefighter. He had graduated from Ramsey High School in 2001.

A funeral was held for McGill this morning at St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church. All state buildings are flying flags at half-staff today in his memory.

McGill is the third solider the Ramsey community has lost over the past three years.
