EDISON - Gov. Chris Christie is currently reviewing a proposed bill that would allow shelters in New Jersey to quickly put down animals, based on their "age, health or behavior."

Current laws call for a seven-day hold on animals that are picked up by shelters.

The proposed law also establishes a pilot program concerning required sterilization of stray and adopted animals.

The bill has already passed both Houses.
