LAKEWOOD - Snow has been cleared from the town green in Lakewood as mourners prepare to pay their respects to Officer Chris Matlosz.
News 12 New Jersey spoke with Sgt. Peter Cooke, of the Englishtown Police Department, who says Matlosz's death is a huge loss to his department as well. Matlosz was an officer in Englishtown from 2004 to 2006, before getting his dream job with the Lakewood Police Department.
Cook says Matlosz would have had a brilliant career because he was a proactive officer.
Matlosz also became close friends with the Damante family. Joanne Damante says that Matlosz was like a son to them. She says, "His smile, his laughter, his kindness - everything about him is just so contagious and he just became part of our family immediately."
