Freehold animal hospital looks for home for abused dog

FREEHOLD - Veterinarians in Freehold are searching for a home for a pit bull mix who was previously abused by its owners. Onyx's original owners brought the sick dog into VCA Freehold Animal Hospital due to a rash. However, the hospital's staff says that the dog was actually anemic and had severe skin issues. The animal hospital tells News 12 New Jersey that the owners could not afford the dog's medical bills and surrendered him. The vets now say the dog is on the mend and has gained 11 pounds. They say Onyx will be ready for a new home when his skin condition fully clears. The previous owners of Onyx were brought up on animal cruelty charges and found guilty. To watch an interview with the veterinarian who treated Onyx, click on News 12 Extra on Optimum TV channel 612.
