FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP - A Franklin Township woman sought on charges she threw a chemical and hot cooking oil on her husband before chasing him with an ax has turned herself in.

Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano says Mauvette Daley Mattandeen surrendered to detectives yesterday afternoon. She faces attempted murder and weapons charges.

Soriano says Mattandeen's husband was sleeping in their Franklin Township home when she sprayed an unknown chemical in his face Friday morning. And while he was washing the chemical off, his 41-year-old wife allegedly threw the hot oil on him and then tried to attack him with an ax.

The man managed to flee to a neighbor's home and is being treated for severe burns to his head, face and torso.
