FORT LEE - A Fort Lee gas station attendant is recovering after he was dragged by a driver who didn’t pay for gas.
Police say that the incident happened Monday around 9:30 p.m. at the Sunoco gas station on Lemoine Avenue.
The suspect pulled into the gas station in an SUV and asked the attendant to fill his car with regular gas. When the attendant asked him to pay, the man took off and dragged the attendant.
Avi, who works next door, saw the whole crime unfold. He says that the SUV sped away at 60 or 70 mph toward the Palisades Interstate Parkway.
“I ran into my car to rescue the guy,” Avi says. “I chased the car and I saw the guy on the floor.”
Avi found the attendant on the ground at the Palisades Interstate Parkway entrance. He was bleeding from his leg and hand.
"He was in shock. He hardly could get up and get into the car,” says Avi.
The suspect is described as a black man in his early- to mid-30s. He has dark hair and a goatee.
Police say that he faces a theft of services charge and potentially assault by auto and robbery charges.
