WALL TOWNSHIP - Former Wall Township assistant school superintendent Sandra Brower entered a not guilty plea Monday to charges of official misconduct.

Court papers reveal that Brower is accused of covering up an alleged sexual assault of a 4-year-old special needs student at a school in Wall in 2009.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office says the school principal made Brower aware of the report, but says Brower lied to police, claiming no knowledge of the incident. The prosecutor's office says Brower then allegedly ordered technical staff to destroy emails about it, and later removed employees who knew she was aware.

Police say there was no evidence the sexual assault to the child ever happened.

School officials are required to inform police of any sex crimes on school property that are reported to them.

Brower was put on administrative leave with pay last week from her current position as superintendent of schools in Lacey.
