Former Jersey City council head faces sentencing

NEWARK - (AP) - Jersey City's former municipal councilpresident faces sentencing in federal court in Newark Monday.

Mariano Vega Jr. was one of 46 people arrested in 2009 in alarge-scale corruption and money laundering investigation. Hepleaded guilty last fall to accepting money from a governmentinformant posing as a crooked developer.

Vega faces up to three years in prison.

More than half the people arrested have pleaded guilty. Threehave been convicted, two have been acquitted and one defendant hadcharges against him dropped.
