TRENTON - Crews have begun demolition work on a Trenton building that was formerly the Glen Cairn Arms apartment complex.

Thomas Edison State College bought the property from the city back in February for $300,000 and plans to turn the site into a nursing school. The structure has sat vacant for nearly 20 years and is the first building visible when drivers take the Calhoun Street exit off Route 29.

Health care professionals say the plan is a positive step for the city because New Jersey could be short as many as 23,000 nurses by 2020.

Demolition is expected to take around two months. Construction should begin in the spring and will likely be completed by the end of 2015.
