Floodwaters force evacuations in Bergen, Passaic counties

OAKLAND - Heavy rain that fell from Sunday into the early morning hours has left homes and roads flooded.

The floodwaters forced evacuations in Bergen and Passaic counties. The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) says more than 100 people left their homes in Wayne, Pompton Lakes, Lodi and Pequannock.

In some places, families couldn't get out of their homes. In Oakland, Roosevelt Boulevard is under water and homeowners can't get out until the water recedes.

News 12 New Jersey spoke to one trapped homeowner by cell phone. He said that dredging the river would help.
