ASBURY PARK - Firefighter Jason Fazio's family says it is praying that he shows some signs of recovery after he was critically injured while fighting a fire in Asbury Park this past Monday.

Asbury Park Fire Chief Kevin Keddy says Fazio was on the second floor when the room he was in "flashed over" and became engulfed in flames. He says Fazio's air tank was low, so he broke through a window to escape the flames and landed on the sidewalk.

Fazio suffered several broken bones and third-degree burns over much of his body.

Chief Keddy says he is now trying to hold the department together while praying for his friend, whom he calls the life of the department.
