NORTH BERGEN - A massive fire tore through a North Bergen apartment building last night, displacing 60 families.

The fire broke out at around 5 p.m. yesterday at the five-story building on 92nd John F. Kennedy Boulevard West. Investigators say it was an electrical fire that started on the top floor. It took firefighters several hours to get it under control.

The North Bergen Fire Department says two people, including one firefighter, suffered minor injuries.

A total of 21 families were put up in hotels following the fire.

Residents returned to the building today to salvage the few belongings that survived the fire.

The township is still deciding if the building will come down.

It's unclear what's next for the affected families. The Red Cross, Health Department and local relief agencies will meet Monday afternoon to figure out what's next.

Donations for displaced families can be dropped off at Our Lady of Fatima Church on Kennedy Boulevard in North Bergen.
