RUTHERFORD - A large, fast-moving fire ripped through two homes in Rutherford Wednesday morning.

Police say the fire broke out at 135 Francisco Ave. and quickly spread to a second home.

The Rutherford fire chief tells New 12 New Jersey that 135 Francisco Ave. was destroyed. He says that all of the walls collapsed and the fire was spread from the basement all the way to the third floor.

The second home also suffered damage.

A neighbor says that the home’s owners are in Florida, but their son stayed behind. The neighbor said that the son had left the home a few minutes prior to it catching on fire.

The family dog had to be rescued.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No injuries were reported.
