NEWARK - A late morning fire in Newark forced four families out of their homes.

Students inside the George Washington Carver School were evacuated while firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze.

The fire broke out inside a multi-family home directly across from the school at the corner of Lyons Avenue and Aldine Street.

Officials say a woman and two children were taken to a local hospital for smoke inhalation. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries while fighting the blaze.

Authorities are working to determine what caused the fire.
