IRVINGTON - A fire has destroyed a vacant apartment building in Invington this morning.
Officials say the fire apparently started on the third floor of the building on 20th Street at around 5:30 a.m. They say firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames.
At the peak of the fire, flames were so intense that the neighboring apartment building, which holds about six families, was evacuated.
A witness tells News 12 New Jersey that she saw two people running from the vacant building shortly after the fire broke out.
During the fire a nearby power line fell in front of the building. Officials say they were able to shut off power and the downed line is not a danger.
No injuries have been reported.
