WEST MILFORD - It took nine fire companies to quell the flames from a home in West Milford overnight Friday.
The fire fully engulfed the home at 24 Hoplar Place shortly after 10:30 p.m.
There was nobody inside the home at the time of the incident. No injuries were reported.
"We were originally told by the residents that if there are vehicles in the driveway, that the residents would be home which made it a little tough for us," says Fire Commissioner Ed Steines. "We tried to gain entry into the dwelling to do a search but due to the heat in the flames, we were forced back out."
Fire crews say it took two and a half hours to knock down the fire. Crews worked through the night putting out hotspots, 11 hours in all.
The fire marshal believes the fire started in a second-floor bedroom, but the cause is under investigation.
