Fire destroys home in Carteret

CARTERET - Investigators say a house in Carteret was completely destroyed by a fire Saturday morning.

Firefighters responded to a split-level home on Harrison Avenue at 7:30 a.m. Officials say smoke spread throughout the house from either the garage or the basement, where the flames are believed to have originated.

All five members of the household were able to escape unharmed after smoke alarms were set off.
