BLOOMFIELD - A fire ripped through a three-story home in Bloomfield Saturday afternoon, displacing six families.

Bloomfield Mayor Michael Venezia said that the fire destroyed a multifamily home on Charles Street around 5 p.m. The flames caused the evacuation of neighboring buildings due to windy conditions.

Venezia says one person had to rescued, but there were no reports of severe injuries. He says some people were treated for smoke inhalation.

He said the civic center in town was opened to help people, and he estimated that about 10 to 15 people who lived in the home have been displaced.

The Red Cross was on the scene to help victims.

There was no word on what sparked the fire.
