NORTH BERGEN - Firefighters have knocked down a fire in a high rise apartment building in North Bergen where there are reports of injuries.

Crews were called to the 20-story building on Granton Avenue just before 2 p.m. The fire reportedly started inside a ninth-floor bedroom, and the floor was evacuated as a precaution.

Flames were extinguished quickly, but other parts of the building filled with smoke.

One person was taken to the hospital in an unknown condition. There were no other injuries.

The building was the scene of a multi-fatal fire several years ago. The building is now under inspection by the fire marshal to make sure that it is up to code.
