CARLSTADT - Officials have closed the Carlstadt Post Office following an early morning fire.

Post office boxes and mail pick-up are being transferred to the East Rutherford Post Office at 193 Park Ave. Home delivery is not affected.

Fire officials say the fire broke out near the roof of the building on First Street around 1:30 a.m. The post office is on the ground floor and an electrical supply store is on the top floor.

Authorities say no one was inside of the building when the fire broke out.

Fire officials say the top floor sustained heavy fire damage and the post office had water damage. The owner of MDR Electric Supply says the top floor housed most of the supplies needed to run his company, which has been in New Jersey for four decades.

Two firefighters were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to fire officials on the scene.
