Fight brews in South Orange over Graves Mansion

SOUTH ORANGE - A fight is brewing in South Orange over the potential sale of the Graves Mansion.

The mansion, owned by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, is being sold to help fund the nearby Marylawn of the Oranges School. Joan Repka, the chair of the board of trustees for Marylawn, says the charity cannot maintain the estate to the level it would like.

Montrose Park Historic District Association says they would like to renovate the mansion and have it modernized. The sisters say selling is within their rights and will further their educational goals.

Residents say they'll fight any efforts to rezone the mansion property and build high density housing.
