JERSEY CITY - The father of one of the children allegedly abused by a child care provider at the Sunnyside Academy in Jersey City says he's in shock that the facility could let this happen.
"The fact that they're still allowed to operate and continue to put children in danger...I'm speechless," the father, who did not want to be named to protect the identity of his son, told News 12 New Jersey.
The father said that his son was abused by Ann Bactawar, 26. Bactawar was arrested last week and charged with child abuse after investigators saw video of her allegedly abusing two young boys.
Authorities also told the father that the second suspect, Young Cha, 29, of Belleville, may also have been involved.
Cha is free on bail after appearing in a Hudson County courtroom Friday. Cha is charged with child abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.
The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office says an incident on April 29 was caught on camera involving a 17-month-old toddler. Prosecutors say the incident involved Cha slapping a child in the face.
Joyden Cha, the suspect's brother, defends his sister. He says, "She's not that kind of person. Whatever it is I think it's a misunderstanding."
Jersey City fire marshals inspected the day care Friday, but no violations were found.
Cha's case will now head to a grand jury.
