TENAFLY - A father and son are being hailed as heroes after they helped rescue a woman from a burning car in Tenafly.

Jim and Michael Pannone were on their way back from the movies Sunday night when 15-year-old Michael spotted a car crashed into a tree on River Edge Road. When they went to check out the crash, they saw the driver was trapped and unconscious.

The car was on fire due to the impact of the crash. Luckily, Jim Pannone is a volunteer firefighter with more than 40 years of experience. The father-and-son team quickly got to work trying to rescue the woman.

“You’re working against the clock trying to figure out how to get her out without injuring her more than she's already injured,” says Jim Pannone.

Police and firefighters arrived and cut away the seatbelts as the pair was working to rescue the victim.

Jim Pannone helped firefighters put the fire out.

The 39-year-old Newark victim was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center to be treated for serious injuries.
