EAST WINDSOR - A truck driver is dead after a fiery crash early this morning on the New Jersey Turnpike.

According to state police, preliminary investigations show that a truck in the center lane rammed into the back of a UPS tractor-trailer in East Windsor just before 12:30 a.m.

State police say the front of the truck and the rear of the UPS trailer burst into flames. The driver of the truck, 33-year-old Phillip Frey, of Toms River, died.

According to police, the driver of the UPS tractor-trailer was not injured.

The accident caused major traffic, with all southbound traffic diverted at Interchange 9 in East Brunswick until 6:15 a.m.

The investigation of the accident remains ongoing.
