The bodies of a woman and an 11-year-old girl were discovered in a home in Long Branch Friday, according to friends and relatives of the victims.

LONG BRANCH - The bodies of a woman and an 11-year-old girl were discovered in a home in Long Branch Friday, according to friends and relatives of the victims.

Police have not yet confirmed details on their investigation. However, friends and family members say the two victims were discovered in a home on Lippincott Avenue at around 5 p.m.

Friends of the victims tell News 12 New Jersey that the woman's name was Joan Colbert and she had been raising the little girl, Veronica Roach. Neighbors say Colbert had adopted the girl.

Investigators have not yet confirmed their identities, or said how they died.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office is now leading the investigation. Stay with News 12 for more details as they become available.
