NEWARK - A grieving family is calling for justice after a 17-year-old girl was gunned down over the weekend.

The Newark rally for Cheyanne Bond was attended by dozens of people Tuesday. Even in their grief, the family had a strong message. They made it clear that whoever shot and killed the recent high school graduate Sunday night must turn themselves in.

The family prayed, sang and consoled each other.

"She didn't deserve it," says Surayyah Johnson. "She was a nice, quiet, innocent little girl with big dreams."

Dozens of Bond's friends turned out for the girl they knew as "Shay," who was months away from starting college.

Bond was the third person killed in Newark in a 24-hour period this past weekend.

Her family believes she made it through life by doing everything right, so her death feels even more wrong.

A $12,000 reward has been offered for infomation on Cheyanne Bond's killing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.
