Family protests judge's order over their property line

FAIR LAWN - A family in Fair Lawn is protesting a judge's order that it surrenders part of its backyard, which was actually owned by Bergen County.

The Shepards say the 8-foot section of the property has been part of its home since its purchase in 1972. While the judge says the land is county-owned, the family says the county has not made use of it or claimed ownership until now.

A judge has ordered the family off the land so it is tearing up the section in protest.

The family says it is appealing the ruling while also trying to figure out why the county is now laying claim to the property after not using it for years.
