NEWARK - The family of the man accused of being involved in a shooting that left Newark police officer Willie Johnson dead are in shock over the accusations.

Authorities say Rasul McNeil-Thomas had a role in the shooting Thursday that left the officer dead and two others injured. The charges have been upgraded against McNeil-Thomas to include the murder of officer Johnson, in addition to being charged with two counts of aggravated assault and weapons charges.

A friend of McNeil-Thomas said that he was a good man who was going to school and was just a quiet family person.
