SCOTCH PLAINS - Sen. Robert Menendez is renewing his call for the FBI to take over a floundering murder investigation.

Jimmy Malfetti, 41, of Scotch Plains, was stabbed to death on Jan. 18 while visiting St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

More than two months later, Malfetti's parents are frustrated by the lack of progress and are now offering a $25,000 reward.

Sen. Menendez is blasting local investigators and demanding the FBI take over. "The FBI simply playing a supporting role isn't cutting it," he says. "It's time the Bureau takes the lead in this case to better ensure the Malfetti family gets justice for their son."

The Malfettis have said they need the FBI's help to solve their son's murder and prevent anyone else from going through what they did.
