NEWARK - Relatives say a man was attacked and stabbed a few hundred feet from his home in Newark Friday night. He stumbled home before collapsing and dying, they say.

The attack reportedly happened near the intersection of Lehigh and Goodwin avenues. The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has identified the victim as 57-year-old Larry Alston.

The family says Alston was walking home at around 1 a.m., when they believe he was randomly attacked and stabbed by a group of teens.

Family members say the victim made it to his home a block away and managed to open the door before shouting, "I'm hurt!" He then collapsed and died, they say.

Alston's death marked the fifth homicide in Newark this week.
