PATERSON - A funeral was held Monday for a soldier from New Jersey who died while stationed at Fort Campbell in Kentucky.

Pfc. Kevin Rodriguez, of Paterson, was shot and killed in a training accident Oct. 6.

Family and friends gathered at the Martinez Memorial Funeral Home in Paterson Monday to say their goodbyes.

According to the Department of Defense, Rodriguez earned a number of medals, including the Army Commendation, National Defense Service and Global War on Terrorism medals. Rodriguez enlisted in the Army exactly two years before the day that he was killed.

The accident is under investigation by the U.S. Army, but a spokesperson says it appears to be accidental.
